This meeting builds on an initiative started by European academic opinion leaders. The aim is to scope whether there are shared opportunities at a European level to promote research in mental health. To do this, we would wish to consider the interactions between the biological, epidemiological and social aspects of mental health across the life course, and how they contribute to resilience or vulnerability. We intend to highlight unifying themes of need and opportunity that could help address the current fragmentation of European mental health research. Therefore, we anticipate that the meeting will lead to further improvement of co-ordination between the funding bodies involved and will facilitate broader engagement with the European Commission and other stakeholders.
The one-day meeting involved selected academic opinion leaders and representatives from national funding bodies across Europe.
